In early 1994, NATO undertook DENY FLIGHT monitoring a no-fly zone to ensure that the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina did not spread to the air. During enforcement operations in the early morning hours of 28 Feb 1994, US F-16 aircraft on air patrol for NATO shot down four Galeb fixed-wing aircraft that were violating the no-fly zone near Banja Luka, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In retaliation a Bosnian-Serb SA-6 crew shot down a US Navy CH-60 Sea Hawk helicopter in the same area. The status of the crew and passengers is unknown.
Bosnian-Serb forces and US-CSAR are racing each other and the clock to locate the wreckage of the aircraft, and most importantly, the occupants.

OP: THUNDER BOLT: Raid on Entebbe
|
|
|
|
|
Operation Entebbe, also known as the Entebbe Raid or Operation Thunderbolt, was a counter-terrorism hostage-rescue mission carried out by the Israel Defense Force (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on the night of July 3 and early morning of July 4, 1976. In the wake of the hijacking of Air France flight 139 and the hijackers' threats to kill the hostages if their prisoner release demands were not met, a plan was drawn up to airlift the hostages to safety. These plans took into account the likelihood of armed resistance from Ugandan military troops.
Originally codenamed Operation Thunderbolt (or Operation Thunderball) by the IDF, the operation was retroactively renamed Operation Yonatan in memory of the Sayeret Matkal commander Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan "Yoni" Netanyahu who was killed in action. Three hostages were killed and five Israeli commandos were wounded.

The wooded mountain country of Southern Lebanon - circa 2007. Using its still-intact covert intelligence-gathering assets, IDF
snoopers discovered an extensive training facility hidden deeply in the mountain forests of southern Lebanon- and withn mortar distance of the border of northern Israel. This base serves various enemy factions, but for a single purpose: to prepare special forces troops for conventional military operations- skills which Syrian leadership have deemed essential in order to prepare for an eventual successful invasion of the "Zionist entity"- and fulfilling the dream of its destruction.
The Syrian forces are no rag-tag group of amateurs. Contracting with the lawless elements of Hezbollah, the camp was established in Lebonese mountain country in an effort to thwart IDF snoopers. Clearly, the subterfuge had succeeded, as the facility has been in full operational mode for some time, successfully elluding Israeli eyes- until now-thanks to the boreal forests of the southern Lebanese mountains, about 75 km west of the Beka Valley.

On 6 May, the 124th Infantry Regiment continued to move up Sayre Highway without the Talomo trail reconnaissance operation in full swing, and in doing so, it moved into its toughest fight of the Mindanao campaign. A Japanese battalion, ordered by Morozumi to delay the 124th at Maramag some thirty miles (50 km) south to ensure the regrouping of his 30th Division, did with such ferocity, that it took six days for the 124th to reach Maramag. The battle area from Talomo to Maramag was later renamed Colgan Woods by the troops in remembrance of Capt. Thomas A. Colgan, an Army chaplain who was killed during one of his repeated efforts to aid wounded soldiers in the line of fire. The battle was one of the many brutal struggles in the Pacific theater that never made any headlines.
Firing from dugout positions, from camouflaged spider holes with connecting tunnels, and from virtually invisible pillboxes, the defending Japanese chose to die in place rather than retreat. Banzai charges struck the 124th, fighting without supporting artillery, first on 7 May and then on the night of 14 May. The latter ended in a rout as American automatic weapons stopped the attackers, killing 73 Japanese, marking the end of the battle. In the fighting for Colgan Woods and Maramag, the 124th Infantry lost 69 men and 177 wounded.

Established in 1974 as a Marxism-Leninism and Kurdish nationalism insurgent group primarily composed of Turkish Kurds, the PKK's goal has been to create an independent, socialist Kurdish state in southeastern Turkey, where there is a predominantly Kurdish population. Ultimately their goal is to expand this to all of Kurdistan, an area that comprises parts of southeastern Turkey, northeastern Iraq, northeastern Syria and northwestern Iran. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization internationally by a number of states and organizations, including the United States,[6][7] NATO and the European Union.[8]
From the May to October 2007, PKK rebels stepped-up their campaign for independence bys setting bombs off in Ankara and conducting attacks against Turkish troops near the Iraq boarder.
Turkey requested help from Iraq & the U.S. to prevent the PKK from using areas in northern Iraq as staging area to conduct attacks into Turkey by allow Turkish troops to pursue PKK rebel into northern Iraq. However, in fear of expanding the conflict, this was denied.
On 21 October 2007 PKK rebels killed 12 Turkish soldiers and captured eight in fighting in Turkey's Hakkari province near the Iraq boarder. The rebels blew up a bridge as a 12-vehicle military convoy was crossing it. Turkey's military said it killed 32 rebels in a counter-offensive.
This was the final straw that broke the camels back and was the prelude for Turkish military attacks into northern Iraq to destroy PKK bases of operation.
This OP is based off this incident.

The Ho Chi Minh trail was a logistical system that ran from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) to the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) through the neighboring kingdoms of Laos and Cambodia. The system provided support in the form of manpower and materiel, to the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (NLF or derogatively, Viet Cong) and the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) during the Vietnam War (1960-1975).
The trail was not a single route, but rather a complex maze of truck routes, paths for foot and bicycle traffic, and river transportation systems. The name, taken from North Vietnamese president Ho Chi Minh, is of American origin. Within North Vietnam, it was called the Truong Son Road, after the mountain range in central Vietnam through which it passed.
This months OP will take place in Vietnam and Laos 1967, Central Highlands. Military operations to prevent the transit of People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) personnel and supplies on the logistical corridor known as the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Pegasus Bridge was the objective of the British 6th Airborne glider infantry, six of whose gliders landed noiselessly shortly after midnight on D-Day (i.e., six to seven hours before the actual seaborne landings started). Their mission was to sever a major artery between Caen and the sea, and thus prevent German reinforcements from hitting the left flank of the invasion area, all the while keeping the bridges intact for later expansion of the beachhead. The 150-odd men rapidly overwhelmed the sleeping German defenders and managed to hold off counterattacks for over 12 hours — until Lord Lovat's commandos arrived (to the tune of Bill Millin's bagpipes).
