17jan03, Friday Night 1700hrs
The Operation Delta Thunder 2 participants collected at the boat docks from
1730-1930 hrs. Due to traffic problems on the main route of march, the transport
vessels continued operation 2hrs past the op plan, allowing all participants to
be accounted for. Following a hearty meal of roast chicken, barbequed
rabbit and steaks, the participants gathered in the Team House for the briefing.
Capt Denebeim welcomed those gathered and outlined the general rules for the
operation. SSgt. Ramsell assisted by SSgt. Fisher conducted the Briefing
on the morning exercise, slated for an 0830 start.
Mission Briefing: The morning scenario would center
around recon operations to locate and recover Intel information from a series
of targets relayed by OPCom with grid coordinates only. An Intelligence Officer
would have to observe coded information on the target, de-code the message, then
relay it to his commander, in turn receiving a coded reply verifying he was "on
target." These coded objective names would be employed in the afternoon
exercise. The team that could be more successful in the recon portion of
the exercise would have a distinct advantage in the second phase. The
Intel officer would then take an orange marker flag from the target signifying
they had completed that portion of their mission. Death Rule: 5
minute die in place. Each operator is required to lie in the place of their death for 5
minutes. Once they have done this they will safely exit the battlefield and
return to their re-entry point (PBR), wherever that may be located.
After the briefing, gear was checked. Some adjourned to the
bar for a nerve calming draft. Operators found billet accommodations in the Team
House and by 0130hrs all was secured.
